Company History
Siewert & Kau was founded in 1994 by Björn Siewert and brothers Holger and Oliver Kau in Bergheim, near Cologne. Initially, services were limited to business in PC components and the replacement of assemblies in customer PCs. The young company quickly gained recognition for its high quality service and impressive price-performance ratio. Soon, initial orders for the production of complete PCs according to the build-to-order (BTO) principle followed. After only a few months, additional space had to be rented.
The young company initially was focused regionally. But a little over a year after the company’s founding, demand was so great that activities were expanded to the entire German-speaking market.
In 1996, sales increased to more than DM 40 million. In order the consistently advance the company philosophy of delivering products quickly at an optimum market price with a high level of service, Siewert & Kau expanded beyond the retail trade and became active on the wholesale side. In addition to the sale of components, the BTO and mail order businesses were expanded significantly. To keep up with growing demand, additional employees were hired and larger space rented. Direct imports provided for a more favorable cost base, to the benefit of the ever growing number of customers. Siewert & Kau established additional retail offices in Mönchengladbach, Neuss, and Cologne.
Thanks to strong growth in demand, it quickly became apparent that the existing sales and warehouse space was no longer sufficient. In 1997, the company moved again into larger offices. Sales that year exceeded the DM 60 million threshold.
But even this space could not keep up with the ever growing demand. And so in 1998 the company founders broke ground on new headquarters that could adapt to their growth needs. To meet future requirements over the long term, sufficient space was provided for subsequent growth and expansion.
By 2001 sales had reached DM 150 million. The sales concept was expanded by the establishment of domestic and international sales offices, and direct imports were accelerated by manufacturers.
To further optimize the use of its resources, today Siewert & Kau is concentrated on the IT wholesale business with components, the BTO business for large buyers, and additional services for customers, such as providing finance and logistics services, as well as marketing and after-sales service. Today, Siewert & Kau is one of the largest international IT distributors in Germany. All of these activities are centered on providing customers in the best possible manner with components along with a high level of service. Siewert & Kau ensures the highest availability of goods at optimum market prices. .
With annual sales of almost €400 million and 200 employees at headquarters in Bergheim and sales offices in Germany and Spain, Siewert & Kau has successfully positioned itself in the international market and is expanding its core distribution business with additional services.
At its warehouse, which has now expanded to 15000 m2, more than 10 million items are processed each year, and that volume is growing. Listed items now exceed 5000.
